# How do I Update the Theme?

We strongly recommend always keep your **Zimac** up to date. Backup **your website** and **theme folders** completely to make sure you have a restore point in case of any complications

If any direct customizations have been made to the main theme, they will still be overwritten when the theme is updated. We recommended better way to add your customizations is to use a child theme.

### Update Theme using plugin Envato Market (Automatic Updates) <a href="#udpate-using-envato-market" id="udpate-using-envato-market"></a>

The Envato Market plugin allows you to access your Envato WordPress purchases from within your WordPress Dashboard.\
It allows you to receive update notifications and update automatically with one click.

Envato Market plugin has been included in **Zimac** theme. If you haven’t installed it yet, please navigate **Appearance > Install Plugins**.

1. Install and Activate the plugin.
2. Backup your website completely to make sure you have a restore point in case of any complications.
3. Navigate to **Envato Market**, follow the instructions there to generate a **Global OAuth Personal Token,** then enter your own Token to the field of the config page.
4. You will see a notification circle and can update the theme when a new version is released.

### Update Theme using plugin “Easy Theme Update”

You can also update the theme via the 3rd plugin: <https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-theme-and-plugin-upgrades/>

This plugin will help you install a new version as a new installation and backup the existing theme to a package in the media library.

1. Download, install, and activate the plugin.
2. Backup your website completely to make sure you have a restore point in case of any complications.
3. Go to Themeforest to [download the latest version](https://help.themeruby.com/pixwell/download-and-install-theme/) of **Zimac** theme.
4. Unzip the file you've just downloaded from ThemeForest and locate the WordPress Theme (i.e. zimac.zip).
5. Navigate to **Appearance > Themes**
6. Click on **Add New** button on this page.
7. Click on the **Upload Theme** button.
8. Click **Choose File** and locate the new theme file on your device.
9. Click **Install Now** button.
10. Click **Activate** button.

### Update Theme using FTP <a href="#update-using-ftp" id="update-using-ftp"></a>

1. Go to Themeforest to download the latest version of Zimac theme to your device.
2. Connect to your hosting via [FTP software](https://help.themeruby.com/pixwell/what-is-ftp/)
3. Unzip the theme file, then upload the folder to **wp-content/themes**
4. You should be asked to confirm the overwriting of this folder and its contents. Confirm the overwrite.
5. It will take between 5 to 20 minutes to replace all old files. Once you are done, login to your WordPress dashboard and go to **Theme Options**. Look at the header, the theme version should be changed to the latest version. This is the indication that your theme is updated successfully.
